Mx, I'm thinkin' maybe the avatars are disabled, as Smokin's isn't showing either. But, I add an image link to the "Custom Member Title" using the standard HTML img code and it does show; need to put the HTML code [IMG] before and [/IMG] after the direct link.

TNQ I copy & pasted the direct link from Image Shack into to custom member title field...the html showed up as a sig

Sorry guys, you solved it for me. It wasn't disabled, just a script issue

just an FYI; the avatar does work in the PM section. So also add an image in the avatar section of preferences too. Just know that the image in the avatar section is automatically adjusted to 48x48 pixels, so be sure to use a square image.

I used Irfan View to tweak the original to 48x48.

Are you guys using a foreign language? Hee, hee.

I'd really like to get an avatar into play. I found one on the internet I liked and plugged the URL into the avatar section of the profile. It shows up nice and pretty on the completed profile but did not show up in a post I momentarily placed (or this one either I see). I tried adding the [IMG] and [/IMG] before and after but got an error. I decided that was unnecessary since the image showed up on the profile.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

The graphic needs to be hosted on a server. Once done they'll provide you a direct link. Use that link but add [IMG] to the very beginning and [/IMG] to the very end. Do not allow spaces in-between.

as Smokin' noted above there is some kind of script error in the avatar setting. So in order to get one to show here you need add an image link to the "Custom Member Title" using the standard HTML img code; need to put the HTML code [IMG] before and [/IMG] after the URL link.

The avatar setting does show on PM messages so leave the URL link (without the extra code) in that spot too.

Not error issue it works fine (as indicated by the avatars). You just have to follow the steps as you indicated.

Smokin, the image showing here in the forum for me is not the one in my avatar setting. It is the one in the "Custom Member Title" setting. The only time I have seen my avatar image is when I use Private Messaging.

Ok, so this isn't working so swell. I placed the link in the Custom Member Title, bookended by the[IMG][/IMG] tags and tried to post a new message. The avatar showed up but it was HUUUUUGGGEEEEE. I guess I'll have to figure out where I can edit the photo to a small (very, very small) image and have that hosted. Can anyone recommend a completely legitimate host website? This is new to me.
Hopefully, I've got this figured out. Too bad I don't have time to do it today. Maybe this weekend.

I use Photobucket for my online images, Photobucket allows resizing and a few other editing options. The ideal size for an avatar is probably around 50x50 pixels; tho' mine is 80x45

Just a note tho', in the profile 'Avatar' section the image must be a square or it will be 'squished' to make it a square. That is why I recreated my avatar as a square also. The 'Avatar' setting is the one that shows in private messaging. If you decide to use the 'Avatar' setting be sure to insert only the URL link.

OK. So how do I remove the test from the Avatar? It doesn't show up in the ShutterImage picture.

Go back to your profile, and delete the html code you pasted in there. Save changes. Should do it.

OK. Had to redownload picture to ImageShack and hit the "no label" button.

Going to increase the size a bit, but now golf. Then left over ribs.
