Hi all, brand new around here, although I've been reading for a while trying to help make my decision. I was all set on the smokerette, then I ran across a deal on the SM50 model, I can get a gently used one delivered to me for under $600US....is that a good deal? Anything I should be aware of or ask the owner? Should I also get a cover for it? Apparently it comes with everything just as if I bought it retail, rib hooks, that sort of thing, except for a cover. Also something about a smoker box handle....not sure what thats all about? Can someone enlighten me?

So whatcha all think.....good deal? Not sure how many years old it is.....have the SM50's gone thru changes in the last while? Thanks very much for any help!

Sounds like maybe a good deal to me. Have you seen it? If it is in good shape and everything works, has some extras, etc., then it should be worth $500 to anyone. The handle is for the woodbox so you can remove it when it is hot in case you want to add more wood to it during a long cook. Not neccessary, in my opinion. Yes, you need a cover for it. Ask the owner if he has ever tested it to see if it easily maintains 250*F. Ask him how long his brisket or butt cooks have usually taken. You will get a sense of how much he actually knows about it and/or how much he has actually used it.

Cool
Haha......well, I havent seen it, its actually from a dealer that sells them brand new, has a demo unit they are wanting to sell, said they just used it for doing demonstrations, etc, and said it would come with full manufacturers warranty. I'm thinking its likely a good deal, its already seasoned, has warranty, from a reputable dealer
Hey......sorry guys, YES I pulled the trigger on this unit, is being shipped as we speak, hoping to have it early next week, can't wait. Already have purchased the Maverick ET-73 remote thermometer, and been reading lots here, my first project will be a pork butt thats been waitin' for some lovin'!
