How do you run your meat probes to your meat while cooking on your FEC-100? I usually run them through the door but at a contest the other day I saw a guy who drilled out the center of a large bolt and ran it through the side wall of the FEc-100 right above the pellet box. He then ran his 2 probes though it and then put a rubber cork in the end to seal it off. Anybody else ever do this?

I run mine through the exhaust... Main downside is if I wrap the meat I have to remove the probe and replace it. but not that big of a deal. I've ran it through the door as well and not had any problems either way.

At competitions at night I use a bungee cord to hang my temp probe connector below the exhaust pipe, then just run the probes through the exhaust. Works pretty well. My probe box is weather proof (resistant!) but if it's particularly bad weather i just run it through the door gasket and put the probe box on top of the hopper and put the FEC100 cover on.

Agree with Smokin regarding integrity of the stainless. I've seen someone drill a hole in the side with a nipple setup like a smaller version of the vent hole at the top of the cookshack electric smokers.

Sorry for the confusion...

I use a stoker to monitor temps... I got tired of my Maverick probes going out or the wireless not working well so I brought in the big guns and have been very happy with the consistency and durability of the setup...

I didn't want to leave my stoker outside as it's 1)easily stealable and 2)not exactly weather proof so I built an extender box that I can plug all my probes into and then one wire runs into my trailer or garage where the stoker sits.

This was the original version. I have since added 2 more ports so I can plug in the cable and 5 probes if needed.

I just run a bungee cord over the exhaust and clip both hooks on the box and it hangs there and works like a charm!
