Hi folks

I am curious on what is expected as a temperature swing on a new fec100. Tonight I have mine set at 210 but are getting oven temps anywhere from 208 to 230. I understand the overshoot, however, the 230 is over 2 hours into the cook with no door openings. If normal then I can adjust. Just wondering.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks EZ for your response. If that is the case, I am curious to how long should I expect to 'break it in'. I am smoking so much on it now my friends are teasing me by wanting me to smoke Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches because I've smoked everything else there is to smoke Smiler

As an update... a bit over 4 hrs into the smoke and no door openings and we are still constitently running 15-20 degrees over programmed temp. Again, if this is typical, then I can just turn down the program temp. No biggy.

Thanks again!

setting it at 210, do you have an IQ4? The old traeger controllers will certainly vary.

Mine will get the overshoot, but then settle to within a very few degrees, usually 2 or 3, of the temp I set. It's not something I think you can calibrate.

How long have you had it, how many cooks?

The key is does it drop to 208 then kick in the fan and dump more pellets? Or is it kicking in before it even drops the temp down from 230 and kicks on say 215/220?

Make sure to keep the temp probe clean of any food, sauce, etc.
Hi Smokin

Thanks for the response. I received the cooker the week after the cooking class. It was one of the units we used in the class. I've been cooking quite steadily since it arrived. Last night, the temp seemed to just hover in the 220-230 range. This is the first time I've seen this. I will make sure the probe is clean. I do clean and refoil after every cook but may have missed the probe. I pulled 3 flats this morning and started some spares. They've been on a little over an hour and the temp is dead on 260 where I set it. Maybe last night was just a fluke. But I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks again!

Hi Guys
I had the same problem, Coach, you dont want to set to a lower temp to try to compensate, I tried that and when I set at 225 it would be 245, so i would set at lower temp, but it would fall to set temp, then overshoot and back down to too low a temp. I believe it is an airflow problem, but I will let Cookshack work on your solution, I fixed mine but dont recommend tinkering with electronics
