Wood grate mod near firebox? | Cookshack

Hey folks,

I could have sworn I've seen a picture, but can't find it now where someone welded a small grate to the firebox so he could add wood chips/chunks for additional smoke.

Anyone know where this picture is? I'm thinking of doing the same to my FEC100 and wanted it as a frame of reference.

Found it! Looks like he used screws and no welding anyways.

I did one a little different, just bent a piece of expanded metal so it fit snug on the firepot. It puts the wood about 3" above the firepot and I can easily pull it off to clean. I'll see if I can get a picture up in a little bit.

This was the first version, I raised it a little higher after this one was taken.

Thanks for the idea. I will take a look at that option as well. I've got the materials so now it is time to devise the plan.
